Using Compass

This article explains how to use Letter Compass day to day.

Opening Letter Compass

Click Letter Compass in the sidebar to open your deal list. You’ll see all deals in one place.


The Deals List

The main Compass view includes:

  • All Deals – List of your deals

  • Create Deal – Manually add a deal

  • Import Deals – Import deals from Salesforce (if Salesforce is connected)

  • Search – Search deals by name or other fields

  • Filters – Filter by stage, amount, and other criteria

  • Pipeline – Deals grouped by stage (e.g. Discovery, Proposal, Negotiation)

  • Recommended Actions – Suggested next steps (emails, calls) across deals


Opening a Deal

Click a deal to open its detail page. You’ll see:

  • Deal header – Name, amount, stage, close date, account, products, win probability

  • Edit – Change deal details (for manually created deals)

  • Delete – Remove a deal (for imported deals)


Deal Tabs

Each deal has four tabs:

Overview

AI-generated insights from your meetings:

  • Customer overview – Summary of the customer and engagement

  • Action center – Recommended next steps (emails, calls, prep)

  • Deal sentiment – Sentiment and engagement from calls

  • Common topics – Themes discussed in meetings

Insights are generated from meetings linked to the deal. If there are no meetings, upload one to start generating insights.

External Research

AI-generated research about the account:

  • Company background

  • Financial highlights

  • Market analysis

  • Recent developments

  • Key findings

Use Regenerate to refresh the research.

Shared Assets

Content shared with the deal:

  • Views over time – How often shared content is viewed

  • Active users – Who has viewed it

  • Most viewed content – Top shared assets

Meetings

Meetings linked to the deal:

  • Meeting list – All meetings for the deal

  • Add meeting – Upload a recording or import from Zoom

  • Meeting details – Transcript, playback, and scorecard results

  • Meeting evaluations – Scorecard scores and feedback


Adding Meetings to a Deal

  1. Open the deal and go to the Meetings tab.

  2. Click Add meeting.

  3. Either:

    1. Upload – Upload a video or audio file, or

    2. Import from Zoom – Connect Zoom and import recordings.

With Gong connected, meetings are imported automatically when they match the deal’s Salesforce opportunity.


Recommended Actions

On the main Compass view, Recommended Actions shows suggested next steps across deals, such as:

  • Send an email

  • Schedule a call

  • Prepare for a call

Use the table to review, filter, and mark actions as done.


Pipeline View

The Pipeline groups deals by stage. Each column shows:

  • Deals in that stage

  • Total value

  • Next scheduled action per deal

Click a deal to open its detail page.


Tips

  • Search and filter – Use the filters panel to focus on specific stages, amounts, or other criteria.

  • Regenerate insights – Use Regenerate on the Overview tab to refresh AI insights.

  • Shared assets – Share content from your library to a deal to track engagement.

  • Copilot – On a deal page, the Copilot can suggest questions and actions based on the deal context.
