Compass Product Updates 9/21/2026

Calls is now a top-level surface: every call in one library, internal meetings recorded with private-by-default access and layered controls, a Viewer license, plus the Agent and AI Docs read every imported CRM field.

Call Recorder

Calls: A Top-Level Home for Every Call

  • Description: You can now open Calls from the main sidebar, beside Content and Learning, and see every call you have rights to in one library — calls matched to a deal, calls that never matched one, and internal meetings — instead of reaching calls only through an opportunity. Deal-matched calls sit in one tab and internal and unmatched calls in another, on the same cards: thumbnail, brief, participants, and an Open full call action. Any call opens in a standalone viewer with the player, transcript, summary, next steps, clips, comments, and sharing; if the call is matched to a deal, View in deal takes you to the opportunity. An Invite Meeting Recorder button sits in the top-right of the page so you can send the recorder to an ad-hoc meeting without going through a deal, and the link you paste no longer needs an http:// prefix. If you unlink a call from a deal, it keeps its own summary and next steps rather than losing them. The Calls tab that lived inside Letter Compass is retired — old links, including ones pointing at Unmatched, redirect to the new page with their filters intact — and a deal's Meetings tab is unchanged.

  • Solution & Impact: Calls used to be a feature of Compass rather than a place of their own. Anything that did not match an open deal disappeared into Unmatched with no transcript, no analysis, and no way to find it, and people outside sales — product, customer success, enablement — had no entry point at all. Now there is one call object with one library, and the deal view is simply a filtered path into it.

Internal Meetings Are Now Recorded

  • Description: When your admin allows it, the Letter meeting recorder now joins your internal meetings — deal reviews, forecasting calls, enablement sessions, onboarding — and those recordings appear in the Calls library alongside customer calls, marked Internal. Each gets a recording, transcript, summary, next steps, and talk-time bars, exactly like a customer call. Internal calls are not scored automatically, do not feed deal insights, and never write to your CRM. Calls imported from Gong or Zoom that turn out to be internal come in flagged the same way. The recording disclosure plays on internal meetings just as it does on external ones, including for people who join late. Internal calls never appear on a deal's Meetings tab or anywhere else in the deal view.

  • Solution & Impact: The recorder only ever served deal-matched calls, so an internal meeting it happened to join was captured, paid for, and thrown away — for one customer, three out of four unmatched calls in a month were internal. Teams migrating off Gong needed somewhere for their internal call history to live, and teams that wanted forecasting meetings on record had to keep a second recorder. Internal calls now have a home, and they are the raw material for coaching on what good looks like.

Who Decides Which Internal Meetings Get Recorded

  • Description: Admins now set an org-wide internal recording policy under the Call Recorder settings, with a one-line explanation next to each option: Off, which no one can override; On; User's choice, where each person sets a default for the meetings they host; or Opt-in per meeting, where nothing internal is recorded unless someone switches on that specific meeting. When the policy allows it, you set your own default from your preferences, and you can flip recording on or off for any single upcoming internal meeting — one occurrence or the whole series — from Upcoming internal meetings in the Calls page header, which shows how many are coming up and opens as a side drawer. Changing the org policy takes effect immediately, including on recorders already scheduled for meetings later this week. Orgs that had Exclude internal meetings turned on are set to Off; nothing starts recording on its own.

  • Solution & Impact: The only control was an admin-only, org-wide switch, and it was too blunt: an internal product demo is a content asset worth recording, a 1:1 or a compensation conversation should never be, and only the host knows which is which. The admin keeps the compliance kill switch; the host gets the judgment call.

Viewer License for Calls

  • Description: You can now give people a Viewer role that opens the Calls library read-only. A Viewer can browse, search, play calls, and read transcripts and summaries, but cannot record, edit, comment, trim, or share, and does not see deal pages or any other Compass surface. Ask your Letter contact about Viewer seats for your org.

  • Solution & Impact: Executives, senior leaders, and people outside sales often need to watch calls without needing anything else in Compass. Until now that meant either a full seat or sharing calls one at a time, which does not scale past a handful of people — one customer had 85 such users on their previous recorder.

Agent

The Agent and AI Docs Know Every CRM Field You Import

  • Description: You can now ask the Letter AI Agent about any CRM field your admin has mapped into Compass — standard or custom, Salesforce or HubSpot — and get an answer that matches what you see on the deal page: "which of my deals have me as the Sales Engineer?", "what's the contract term on Acme?", "renewals closing this quarter with a contract term over 12 months." AI Docs generated on a deal — briefs, exec summaries, MEDDPICC recaps, mutual action plans — now draw on the same fields, using your admin's field labels rather than API names. Fields with no value are left out rather than reported as empty, and the Agent only ever reads fields on deals you can already see. Fields newly mapped in Salesforce Configuration become available after the next sync with nothing else to set up.

  • Solution & Impact: Imported CRM fields landed on the deal record and the deal page, but the AI surfaces could not see them — the Agent could not answer a question about a field that was right there on screen, and AI Docs came out under-informed on facts the rep then re-typed by hand. Whatever your admin maps is now what the AI can use.

Integrations

Deals Re-Import Only When a Field You Use Changes

  • Description: Compass now re-imports an opportunity only when one of the CRM fields configured in your Salesforce or HubSpot configuration has actually changed. Changes to fields Compass does not ingest — a nightly "days in stage" formula, a scoring rollup, an audit stamp — no longer trigger a re-import. New calls, emails, and meetings on a deal still bring it in as before. Adding a field to your configuration back-fills it onto existing deals once; removing one stops it counting as a change. No new setting: the field list you already maintain now also defines what counts as a change.

  • Solution & Impact: Any change to any field on a record used to re-import the whole opportunity, so an org with a nightly automation on an unrelated field re-imported every deal every day. That burned CRM API quota and set off insight regeneration on deals where nothing had actually moved. Import volume now tracks real deal movement rather than the customer's automation.
